Bab Agnaou is the most beautiful of Marrakech’s historic gates, built in the 12th century by the Almohads as the ceremonial entrance to the royal Kasbah. Carved from blue-grey Gueliz stone, its concentric arches and floral frieze make it a highlight for anyone interested in Moroccan architecture.
Where is Bab Agnaou and how to get there
In the Kasbah district in the south of the medina, right by the Saadian Tombs and the Kasbah Mosque. A 15–20 minute walk south from Jemaa el-Fna.
Opening hours and entrance fee
Bab Agnaou is a public gate in the city walls: it is free and can be seen at any time. There is no ticket — simply walk up to it.
