The Menara Gardens are among the most photographed spots in Marrakech: a huge reflecting basin backed by a green-roofed pavilion, ringed by olive groves, with the snow-capped Atlas Mountains behind. The gardens were laid out in the 12th century by the Almohads as an irrigation reservoir for the olive and fruit orchards.
Where are the Menara Gardens and how to get there
West of the medina, about 3 km from Jemaa el-Fna — a short petit-taxi ride or a long walk. They pair well with a visit to the Koutoubia on the way.
Opening hours and entrance fee
The gardens are open daily and are free to enter. The small pavilion (menzeh) charges a modest fee of around 30 MAD to go inside and up for the classic basin view. Entrance fees for Marrakech’s monuments are set by Morocco’s Ministry of Culture and reviewed from time to time, so treat any figure as a guide. The current price is posted at the ticket office, tickets are bought on site (bring cash in dirhams — cards are rarely accepted), and children usually pay a reduced rate.
