Marrakech in April: Weather, What to Do & Tips

April is one of the best months to visit Marrakech. The weather is warm and sunny — daytime highs around 24–25°C — with mild evenings, the Atlas foothills still green from the winter rains, and the city’s gardens in full bloom. It is comfortable for sightseeing, the souks and day trips alike, before the summer heat sets in. The only catch is that it is peak season, so you will want to book ahead. Here is what to expect and what to do.

Marrakech weather in April

April sits in the sweet spot of the Marrakech year: warm, bright days and pleasantly cool evenings, with the landscape at its greenest.

Marrakech weather in April (typical averages).
Measure Typical April
Average daytime high about 24–25°C
Average night-time low about 10–11°C
Rainfall ~30–45 mm over ~5–6 days (short showers)
Sunshine ~8–9 hours a day
Daylight long, bright days; sunset around 19:00–19:30

Compared with December, the days are warmer and much longer, and the nights no longer bite — you can comfortably sit out for dinner. It is close to perfect city-break weather.

What to wear and pack in April

Dress for warm days and mild evenings:

  • Light, breathable summer clothes for the daytime — t-shirts, linen, loose tops.
  • A light jacket, cardigan or jumper for the evenings.
  • A sunhat, sunglasses and sunscreen — the spring sun is strong at midday.
  • Comfortable walking shoes for the medina’s lanes.
  • A light layer for day trips up into the Atlas, which stays cooler.

Things to do in Marrakech in April

With warm, long days, April is made for doing as much as possible:

  • Wander the souks and medina in comfortable warmth — start with a guided walk around Jemaa el-Fna.
  • Tour the monuments and gardens — the Majorelle and Menara are glorious in spring; the Bahia Palace and Saadian Tombs are a pleasure to walk between. See fees and hours in our monuments guide.
  • Eat on the square at night — the night food stalls are perfect in the mild evening air.
  • Take advantage of prime day-trip weather — the green Atlas, the desert and the coast are all at their best (more below).

Is April a good time to visit? Pros and cons

The upside: arguably the best weather of the year — warm, sunny, long days, green scenery and blooming gardens, comfortable for everything from the souks to the desert. The trade-offs: it is peak season, so expect more visitors and higher prices, especially around Easter and the spring school holidays. If you can book ahead, April is hard to beat.

Crowds and prices in April

April is one of the busiest months, and Easter week is the peak within it. Riads, the best guides and popular day trips fill up, and accommodation prices rise accordingly. Booking several weeks ahead is strongly recommended — and if your dates are flexible, the weeks either side of Easter are a touch calmer with the same lovely weather.

Marrakech in April with kids

Spring is a great time for a family trip: the warm-but-not-hot days are kind to children, the long daylight gives you more to play with, and the green Ourika Valley, a gentle camel ride in Agafay and the Ouzoud waterfalls (with their wild monkeys) are all winners. Pack sun protection and keep everyone hydrated in the midday warmth.

Getting around and where to stay

Within the medina you walk; for the gardens, Gueliz or the Menara, take a petit taxi (agree the fare or ask for the meter). Day trips include round-trip transport. With the warm weather, a riad with a courtyard or plunge pool and a shady rooftop comes into its own — perfect for a mid-afternoon break. Staying in or near the medina keeps you walking distance from the square and souks; because April is peak season, reserve early.

April vs other months

April and May are the warm, green, long-day peak of spring; by June the heat builds, and the deep summer (July–August) is very hot. Autumn (September–October) is the other sweet spot, while winter (see Marrakech in December) is mild by day and cold at night. For the full year-round comparison, see our guide to the best time to visit Marrakech, and plan your stay with how many days you need.

April in short

If you want one line: April gives you some of the warmest, greenest, longest days of the Marrakech year, comfortable for the souks, the monuments, the gardens and every kind of day trip — at the cost of peak-season crowds and prices. Book early, pack light with one warm layer, and you have close to the perfect week. For many visitors it is simply the best month to come, rivalled only by the September–October autumn window.

Tips for visiting Marrakech in April

  • Book accommodation and tours early — April, and Easter especially, sells out.
  • Make the most of the long days: fit in a day trip without feeling rushed.
  • Carry water and sun protection for the strong midday sun.
  • Bring a light layer for cooler evenings and the Atlas.
  • Choose a riad with a pool or shady rooftop for afternoon downtime.

Spring in the gardens and countryside

April shows Marrakech at its greenest. After the winter rains, the Atlas foothills and the Ourika Valley are lush, the streams run full, and wildflowers dot the slopes. In the city, the gardens peak: the Majorelle’s bamboo and cacti are vivid against the cobalt villa, the Menara’s olive grove is fresh, and the orange trees that line the avenues come into blossom — the sweet scent of orange flower (neroli) drifting through the medina is one of the quiet pleasures of spring in Marrakech. It is the best month of the year for photographs of the mountains and gardens.

Seasonal food in April

Spring brings fresh produce to the souks and stalls: sweet strawberries, young broad beans and peas, artichokes and the first stone fruit, alongside the year-round staples of tagine, tanjia and grilled brochettes. The square’s orange-juice carts are at their best as the citrus season tails off, and mint tea is poured everywhere. The mild evenings are ideal for a long dinner on a medina rooftop — a guided street-food tour is a great way to taste widely with a local to order for you.

Evenings and nightlife in April

With nights no longer cold, April evenings are made for being outside. Jemaa el-Fna fills with its night market and performers; medina rooftops serve dinner under the stars; and the modern bars, lounges and clubs of Gueliz and Hivernage are in full swing. The long daylight means you can pack sightseeing into the day and still enjoy a relaxed, warm evening — one of the nicest things about visiting in spring.

Early vs late April

There is little dramatic change across the month — April is reliably warm and green throughout — but the second half tends to be a touch warmer and the busiest stretch usually centres on Easter, wherever it falls that year. If you want the greenest countryside and flowing waterfalls, earlier April is marginally fresher; for the warmest evenings, later April edges ahead. Either way you get long, sunny days and comfortable nights.

Who April suits best

April is the all-rounder’s month: perfect for first-time visitors who want to see everything in comfort, for walkers and day-trippers who want the Atlas at its greenest, and for anyone who finds high summer too hot. It is less ideal if you are travelling on a tight budget or dislike crowds, since it is peak season — in which case the quieter shoulder months may suit you better. A quick note on timing: Ramadan moves about eleven days earlier each year, so check whether your dates fall within it, as daytime café hours can be reduced while the evenings become especially lively.

Plan your April trip

April is popular for good reason — and it books up. Tell us your dates and what you would like to see, and we will put together the right mix of guided walks, monuments and day trips, and hold your spots before they go.
